What happened to the good old-fashioned space adventure, with daring heroes who won their battles against the dastardly villains through courage and moral rectitude? Have they all given way to grim stories of mirror-shaded antiheroes wandering through post-apocalyptic wreckage?
Fear not, for David Weber is still writing space opera in the grand old style, although with a strong awareness of modern developments in science and technology. Honor Harrington is a hero in the traditional mold, who knows what is right and acts accordingly. However she is also a woman, and has to deal with issues peculiar to being a woman in a traditionally masculine culture.
At the same time, Honor Harrington is no static steely-eyed hero -- she hurts and bleeds in the course of her terrible battles, and mourns for the friends who die in action protecting their beloved Star Kingdom of Manticore from the greed of the People's Republic of Haven.
