Foundation's Edge cover Foundation's Edge by Isaac Asimov

Published by Bantam Books

Reviewed by Leigh Kimmel

Five hundred years have passed since Hari Seldon laid the groundwork for the Foundation that would carry humanity through the the Dark Age following the fall of the Galactic Empire. Using the science of psychohistory, he created the Seldon Plan, an outline of the future as shaped by the Foundation.

But all that was thrown off its tracks by the appearance of a random factor, the mutant known as the Mule. Only the intervention of the mysterious Second Foundation was humanity saved from his tyranny.

By all reasonable expectations, the Seldon Plan should now be utterly useless as a predictive tool. But the ancient centennial message left by Seldon is right on the mark. Someone is manipulating history.

Golan Trevize, a troublesome young Foundation councilmember, is packed off in a spaceship of a radically new design. His instructions -- find out who.
